Uniform & Equipment

We value our smart school uniform as it ensures that all our children feel an equal part of our school community, as well as encouraging pupils to feel proud to be part of our community.

Wearing a uniform teaches students to be smart and ensures that they are ready to approach their learning with a professional mind-set. Pupils are, therefore, expected to wear the official school uniform whilst they attend our school.

OWL Kit

OWL (Forest School) clothing must be comfortable and long enough to protect legs and arms against brambles, nettles, branches, etc. which are naturally found in a wooded environment.

Colours and designs aren't specified, but we recommend older clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. OWL kit should be brought into school in a named bag.

Red long sleeved tshirt

T-shirt or sweatshirt that covers the arms

Beige trousers

Long trousers that fully cover the legs (even in warm weather)

Blue waterproof trousers

Waterproof clothes (jacket/trousers/puddlesuit)

Earrings must be removed, either before school, or before the lesson by the child.

If earrings cannot be removed, the child cannot take part in OWL for safety reasons.

Long hair must be tied back.

In very warm weather, children can wear t-shirts with short sleeves at their own risk.

Strappy tops, crop tops, and shorts are not permitted, to prevent injuries.

Please help us to return your child's belongings by labelling them clearly.

We have so many unnamed items of lost property left over each term, which are eventually donated to charity or the PTA. Biro pen will fade with washing and is not recommended for labelling clothes.

Cost

When putting together our uniform, we have taken great care in ensuring we have a mixture of branded products that are available from more than one retailer, as well as plain clothing available in supermarkets and high-street stores, to enable you to source the best value.

Branded products are available at the following retailers:

Skoolkit: http://www/skoolkit.co.uk/

My Clothing: https://myclothing.com/

If your child is eligible for free school meals, we can support with the cost of some uniform should this be needed. Please speak with our Pastoral Team who will be able to help you further.

What else will my child need to bring?

Yes please...

  • Coat

The British weather can be changeable - please ensure your child has at least a waterproof mac in their bags in the warmer months, and a warm coat with them every day in the colder months. They may not be allowed to go out to play if they don't have a coat. Colours/designs are not specified.

  • Bag

Please only send small bags. We don't have enough space for large bags in the lockers, and our corridors can become quite overcrowded.

  • Water Bottle

Please bring in a named water bottle every day. Water only, please (not squash or fizzy drinks).

  • Lunch Box (if not having a school meal)

Our policy on packed lunches is available to read on this webpage.

No thanks ...

  • Pencil Cases & Personal Stationery

We have everything your child needs in school. Teachers may occasionally give permission to children in Year 5 and Year 6 to bring in their own items as part of a project or to help them 'Be Ready', but no child will be left out if they don't have access to those items.

  • Trinkets, personal possessions (including lip balms) and toys

These can be lost and cause distractions. For some children, teachers may give permission for a 'transition object' to be brought into school for a short period of time.

  • Hoop earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings and other jewellery

These can get caught and must not be worn for safety reasons.

Only two ear-studs are permitted to be worn (one per lobe). Stud earrings must be removed for OWL and PE (or they will not be able to take part).

  • Mobile Phones, Smart Watches, Cameras & Other Technology

Mobile phones may be sent in with children when they are in Year 5 and 6 if absolutely necessary. These must be handed in at the start of the day and will be returned at the end. Cameras and recording equipment are strictly prohibited.

Pre-loved uniform

Our PTA at Oakfield run a pre-loved shop for gently-used school uniform, available on the Uniformd online platform - link: Uniformd

You can get branded jumpers, cardigans, and fleeces in used but good condition at a fraction of the cost of new. You can pay online, and collect your order from Reception within 2 working days.

If you would like to donate your child's old cardigans/jumpers/fleeces, please bring them to the school office, and we'll pass them onto the PTA to sell.

Principles

  1. All students should wear their uniform when attending school, when representing the school or when participating in an event organised by the school outside of school hours. Some visits, e.g. day trips and residential trips, do not require students to wear school uniform – this will be at the discretion of the teacher responsible for the visit.

  2. We ask all parents who send their children to Oakfield to ensure they comply with this policy. Parents are expected to send their children to school dressed correctly, ready for their studies, ensuring that the uniform is clean and in good repair.

  3. All staff in Oakfield will support the School Uniform Policy by promoting and maintaining high expectations with regards to uniform and appearance in lessons.

  4. The Trust is responsible for implementing the School Uniform Policy. It liaises with the Headteacher to ensure that the policy is implemented.

  5. Oakfield welcomes children from all backgrounds and faith communities. If any parents would like the School to modify the uniform policy (e.g. on religious grounds), they should make a written representation in the first instance to the Headteacher - the Governing Body will consider such requests sympathetically. This is equally the case on medical grounds.
